Joey Chang's inspiration for "Crazy and Cozy" came from a desire to break free from the traditional appearance of residential design. The client's preference for the Memphis movement, characterized by bright colors and bold geometric shapes, served as the foundation for the design. The result is a space that is rebellious, diverse, and full of character, offering an extraordinary housing imagination.
The unique properties of this design lie in its color scheme and storage solutions. The changing aqua blue and light pink colors echo each other, emphasizing the uniqueness of the light and shadow changes in the space. Larger storage cabinets not only offer functional placement but also bring consistency to the overall style of the painted cabinet. The groove line technique used between the cabinet and the wall adds more levels of depth to the space.
The realization of this design was a process of integrating colors, shapes, and furnishings that reflect the richness of diversity. Hand-painted stripes and Memphis style furnishings contribute to a harmonious and symmetrical spatial design with multiple changes. The design was completed in May 2020 in Taipei City, Taiwan.
The technical specifications of the design include the use of aqua blue and light pink as the main colors, harmonized by gray shades and indigo. Wooden materials cover the floors, creating a warm and comfortable feeling in the home. An open-plan configuration in the public area, along with a long table, couch, and long sofa, provides a larger visual experience.
One of the challenges in creating this design was ensuring harmony in the overall space despite the use of rich colors and diverse feelings. The design team had to consider the possible color changes of the space after being projected by different lights and the conformity of the functional use and color of each space. The result is a space that shows a richer level of change under the main color.
In conclusion, Joey Chang's "Crazy and Cozy" residential design is a vibrant and innovative exploration of the Memphis movement in a modern living space. The design not only meets the needs of the residential space but also creates a comfortable working environment for the client, who works in an art and design-related occupation. The overall space design concept, with its geometric lines and vivid and saturated configuration, emphasizes a space that is rich in diversity and brings inspiration and comfort to the mind.
